Indie Watch: Updates On Trill League , Meta Runner Season Three, And Captain Zero

Glitch Productions has announced a July 22nd start date for the third and final season of Meta Runner. The upcoming series has debuted a trailer that teases everything “coming to an end”.

This season will have eight episodes premiering weekly on Youtube and it looks like it’s gonna be a ride.

Meta Runner is an Australian computer-animated cyberpunk web series created by Kevin and Luke Lerdwichagul. It is produced by Glitch Productions, funded by Screen Australia, financed with support from Crunchyroll and AMD, and financed in association with Epic Games.

Cutting Edge Animation CEO and creator of Captain Zero has finally taken the covers off of his long-awaited project with a new short film complete with a sort of after-premiere roundtable to discuss where this project is and what the future of the franchise has going for it.

Captain Zero: Into The Abyss is a short, animated film that journeys into the psyche of Xerxes Hughes, a social-media obsessed teenager whose double life as a superhero and struggles with depression lead him to seek out therapy.

It is the brainchild of Ida B. Wells Fund Winner, Lamard Cher-Aimé and stars Angelica Ross (FX’s “POSE” and “American Horror Story”) as the voice of Dr. Niobe, Xerxes’ therapist, and confidant.

You may remember a project called Trill League that we’ve been covering for some time now. The franchise was originally shopped years ago to Adult Swim who ultimately passed only to find a home with 50 Cent’s production company that eventually helped warrant a pickup to the now defunct Quibi streaming service.

After Quibi shut down, creator Anthony Piper vowed to try and get this thing made, however, other than two print adaptations of the series, nothing of the franchise ultimately came to pass and Piper has noted on social stories that he plans on putting his best efforts elsewhere. What that will be, we don’t know, but here’s the teaser trailer for Trill League and what it all could have been.
