If “Daily Show” Were Produced By Jeff Dunham For A South African Audience You Would Get “Almost News With Chester Missing”

Chester is just one of this guy’s characters.

Years ago the Fusion network had a puppet news series from the producers of Daily Show called No, You Shut Up! It was hosted by Paul F. Tompkins and it featured a number of puppets as correspondents handling the week’s top news stories. The series lasted a couple of seasons and wasn’t terrible, but it didn’t quite have the searing bite that Daily Show had, almost feeling very “gloves on” when talking about some of the topics that were up for discussion.

So what would happen if Jeff Dunham were to produce Daily Show? Well, it would be a bit closer to this effort from South Africa called Almost News with Chester Missing. The series stars Chester Missing as performed by South African ventriloquist Conrad Koch who stays off camera for this show but is often seen with Chester during his various tour appearances which take him all over the world and has accrued the talented performer with a couple of Emmys.

Conrad Koch and Chester Missing haven’t quite a splash here in the United States, but Almost News with Chester Missing is causing quite the commotion in and around Jo-Burg. It’ll be interesting to see if some of that success can translate over here. In the meantime, if you’re in South Africa, head here for tour dates and information.
