Hulu NewFront: You Crazy People Watched 1.5B Hours Of Adult Animation ; Crossing Swords First-Look ; “South Park” Update

These guys are going bananas and it’s because of you crazy kids!

Hulu sent us a bunch of stats for how well the streaming service is doing. Truth be told…they’re doing great. But, here’s the craziest stat of them all. You crazy Hulu subscribers put in 1.5 billion hours of watching adult animation on the streaming service which is a 40% increase from last year. That’s billion with a “B”. We love you crazy fucks, and we’ve got two bits of good news for Hulu that should keep you guys busy for a while:

1) Kent Alterman tells The Wrap that South Park is going to continue until Matt Stone and Trey Parker tell the Comedy Central head that they want to stop. As we approach 300 episodes, that doesn’t appear to be happening anytime soon. This is good because a bunch of that 1.5 billion hours watched on Hulu is going to South Park, so if the streaming service is willing to keep playing ball and avoid an eventual bidding war when the show’s streaming exclusivity contract is up, you kids should be just fine. Comedy VP Craig Erwich has confirmed to Vulture that South Park is very important in helping to launch new brands:

Well, we have probably the best collection of animation anywhere. South Park, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, Rick and Morty, to name a few. There is a massive hunger and appreciation for that form. It certainly creates opportunities to launch the next generation of hits. And we will continue to be aggressive and selective about what we undertake… There’s a base of viewership that can launch success.

2) Speaking of launching success, Hulu’s original series Crossing Swords is expected to launch in 2020 and you can see a first-look still below.

Crossing Swords has officially been picked up to a ten episode season being produced by the guys who brought you this very good Slash video aka Stoopid Buddy Stoodios. The series will star Nicholas Hoult as Patrick, a goodhearted peasant who lands a coveted squire position at the royal castle. His dream job quickly turns into a nightmare when he learns his beloved kingdom is run by a hornet’s nest of horny monarchs, crooks and charlatans. Even worse, Patrick’s valor made him the black sheep in his family, and now his criminal siblings have returned to make his life hell. War, murder, full frontal nudity—who knew brightly colored peg people led such exciting lives?

Also slated to join the cast is the likes of Luke Evans, Robot Chicken‘s Seth Green and Breckin Meyer, Tony Hale, Wendi McClendon-Covey, Adam Pally, Adam Ray, Tara Strong and Alanna Ubach.
