Homer Simpson Loses Hologram Lawsuit
You might’ve had to read that headline more than once to make sure you understood it correctly, but yes: a Homer Simpson hologram has lost a lawsuit.
Okay, technically the lawsuit was against 20th Century Fox, but it’s all the same in the end. Hologram USA sued the studio over their use of technology used during a Comic-Con panel last year with series creator Matt Groening.
During the July 26th presentation, Groening chatted with Holo-Homer for just a few minutes, but Hologram USA claimed they held exclusive rights on the technology’s patent, for which FOX and the show’s production company, Gracie Films, did not obtain a license.
“I am very happy with the settlement. As the world leader in dynamic holographic 3D technology, Hologram USA has worked with some of the biggest names in entertainment. We hope to add Homer Simpson and FOX to that list,” said Alki David, CEO of Hologram USA.
A spokesman for FOX confirmed the settlement, but terms and dollar amounts were not disclosed. We assume it’s at least enough to make Old Mr. Burns flinch.
