Only a short time after the HUB Network was rebranded as Discovery Family, there has been serious talk of a merger between Hasbro and Dreamworks Animation.

Hasbro’s board of directors have toured DWA’s campus more than once in the last few months in talks about what the new combined brand would mean for both groups. Although it is just strong speculation and nothing is set in stone, it is reported that the new combine company would be named Dreamworks-Hasbro and would be headed up by Jeffery Katzenberg.  The current deal has DWA  looking for Hasbro to shell out $35 a share for the venture.

Hasbro has recently created the post of Chief Content Officer, naming Stephan Davis in the role. His job is to develop content for Hasbro brands and also manage Hasbro’s content for Discovery Family, which Hasbro still owns a minority interest in. It is unknown what effect, if any, this deal would have on Hasbro’s programming for the network.

Dreamworks Animation is the team behind such movies and Shrek, Madagascar, and How to Train your Dragon. Hasbro is known for it’s toy franchises like Transformers, Care Bears, and My Little Pony.
