‘Hägar the Horrible’ Animated Comedy In Development

If you’re like me and grew up on the newspaper funny pages then this information may be a welcome sight. Following in the footsteps of franchises like Baby Blues and The Boondocks, a new animated comedy centered around the  Hägar the Horrible  comic strip from Dic Brown is in the works from The Jim Henson Company and King Features. Eric Ziobrowski (American Dad) is writing the script.

Deadline broke news of the series in development that will follow the hardworking Viking family led by a larger than life hero, Hägar, who can’t quite understand how the society he once understood is changing around him. The Jim Henson Company will employ Henson Digital Puppetry Studio that uses patented technology to allow performers to puppeteer and voice three-dimensional CG characters in real time.

Our Take

This series sounds ready-made for a slot right along The Simpsons on FOX’s Animation Domination line-up, suitable for primetime audiences in a manner similar to The Flintstones or The Jetsons,a patriarchal animated comedy with a family of vikings could be a great addition to a hungry FOX primetime lineup. The franchise itself is familiar to that same age group and could be a ratings win.
