Gundam Unicorn RE:0096 to Run on Toonami Starting January 2017

The start date is a bit off, but who cares?

The official Facebook page of Adult Swim’s Toonami block in the U.S. has announced on Tuesday that it will run the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE:0096 television anime beginning on January 7 at 1:00 a.m. EST.

The 22-episode anime premiered in Japan on April 3. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan with English subtitles and an English dub. The anime was a re-edit of the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn original video anime (OVA) series for television. It featured a new opening and ending theme with new animated footage.

The anime adapts Harutoshi Fukui’s original Mobile Suit Gundam UC novel series, which is mainly set in the year Universal Century 0096, 16 years after the events of the One Year War depicted in the first Mobile Suit Gundam anime, and three years after the Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack anime film. In a renewed conflict between the Earth Federation and Neo Zeon remnants, the Vist Foundation has a potentially devastating secret from the founding of the Federation a century before.

Sunrise released the seven-episode video anime series theatrically in Japan and on home video between 2010-2014. Right Stuf released the series in North America digitally via the PlayStation Store and physically on home video. The video series has an English dub.
