Guide: Get Primed For Disenchantment Part Two With Our Part One Recap

Disenchantment is the latest, greatest television series from the creative mind of Matt Groening. Following the success of franchises The Simpsons and Futurama, Disenchantment takes us back in time to a land of knights, princesses, and demons. Premiering last fall, the series was met with great reception, including a glowing review on this site. Groening continues his line of intelligent shows and grow as a creator. Disenchantment was unique from his other series’ replacing the traditional animated sitcom style with an ongoing storyline with character development and escalating stakes.

In the modern age of online streaming, this method of animated storytelling not only works but has been gaining more popularity as we’ve seen in shows like Big Mouth and BoJack Horseman. Although this does present a new problem. Where it is great to be able to binge-watch a series and get a rich complete story, when the follow-up season finally does premiere a year or so later, our minds have all but forgotten what has happened. We’ve all been there, whether you re-watch all of the Stranger Things episodes before a new season is released, or you are downright confused trying to hop back into Orange Is the New Black. Therefore, instead of leaving everyone high and dry going into a new batch of Disenchantment episodes, we have put together this quick guide to help you get started with part two.

Warning: If you have not watched part one of Disenchantment; things are about to get super spoilery. So many spoils ahead.

Episode One:

We begin with our introduction to Princess Bean, the rough and tumble only daughter of King Zog of Dreamland. Being forced into an arranged marriage, Bean questions the traditions of the kingdom. Her uncertainty is accentuated when she meets Luci, a troublesome demon who sympathizes with the princess and helps her in sabotaging her marriage. Meanwhile, a young elf named Elfo is also uncertain of his life of candy making and happiness and leaves his village in search of more. Elfo comes across Bean and Luci at the wrong time as they are desperately trying to escape Prince Merkimer, Bean’s to-be-betrothed.
