Foiled School Shooting Plot: NJ Teen Used “South Park” As Part Of Early Warnings That Eventually Led To Capture
This was too close for comfort.
A New Jersey-based school shooting based in New Egypt was thwarted after authorities arrested a teen who was planning to shoot up a high school graduation. As part of his taunts that eventually led to his capture, Matthew Vanderbeek had posted a South Park video, according to NJ.com:
In one post, recorded by a school administrator, Vanderbeek plays a clip from the TV show “South Park” in which the caption reads, “Where do you see yourself in 10 years?” The video shows characters of the Comedy Central animated show with rifles and a loaded handgun with a caption written by Vanderbeek saying, “I see myself dead in the end.”
Fortunately, this kid was caught before any harm was done, but had this gone down, conservatives would’ve certainly put South Park on notice in part of their campaigns to blame the media for the increase in school violence in recent years instead of other more plausible reasons like the increase in prescription drug consumption starting at a much younger age and lack of funding for children for disabilities.
Hi Ashley, thank you so much for reading and we love the feedback. Note that on that day we had 14th posts go up and only ten posts show on the front page, so it's possible the preview had already been archived by the time you got to it. One recommendation would be to add our RSS feed to your favorite news aggregator service like Feedly, this way you get all of the latest posts!
