Facebook Watch Makes “Human Discoveries” For New Series

We’re only human.

Last year, Facebook Watch teamed up with Cartuna for two new adult animated series to much success. Human Kind Of was excellent, and even went on to be nominated for an Annie award which more or less validated the platform as a place to get quality adult animation right alongside Netflix and various TV networks. Looking to build on that success, Facebook Watch this time is teaming up with Shadowmachine (The Shivering Truth) for a new animated series with Zac Efron (High School Musical) and Anne Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) tapped to star called Human Discoveries created by  Chris Bruno and David Howard Lee in association with Shadowmachine founders Corey Campodonico and Alex Bulkley. The series is expected to drop later this year.

Human Discoveries features a group of friends living at the dawn of human civilization. Of course, they’re the first to discover necessities like fire and the wheel. But, much more importantly, we’ll watch as they stumble onto humanity’s best, and worst, innovations. Art. Alcohol. Fashion. Racism. Small talk. And, much to their confusion, monogamy. Also slated to appear in the series are Lamorne Morris (New Girl), Jillian Bell (22 Jump Street), Paul Scheer (The League), and Lisa Kudrow (Friends). .

Our Take

I won’t trust Facebook with my data, but for cartoons? Sure thing. Shadowmachine is a solid tag partner for this endeavor and I’m excited to see what comes of it. Typically Facebook series have episodes that don’t exceed 10 minutes so we’ll see if this continues with Human Discoveries.
