EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: DANNY AND ALESSANDRO WITH @SAVECLONEHIGH

1) Tell me why you created this Twitter Profile?

Alessandro: “I was introduced to this TV show by Danny, and took an instant liking to it. It’s obvious that MTV isn’t the channel it used to be, and after watching this show and doing more research into it, it was very clear that the grounds on which it was cancelled weren’t really fair. When considering all this, we decided between us that we could help save the show. And Twitter was the best way to do it as some of the writers and actors from the show are on Twitter.”

Danny: “Like what Alessandro said, Twitter seems to be a lot more popular now, many Facebook users are venturing out to try it, and many of them are liking it. There’s a big possibility many of these people are fans of Clone High, or simply fans of Bill Lawrence or Phil Lord & Chris Miller’s (Clone High creators) work, meaning we can get through to them through those guys. Dunno if they’re out there reading this, but I’d like to thank Phil and Bill for being so responsive and supportive of our account, thanks guys! Alessandro mentioned that the grounds the show was cancelled on were not very fair, and to an extent I have to agree. The show was cancelled due to (apparently) poor ratings, plus a controversy with the Gandhi character, which offended many Indians. Back in 2003, this may have been very offensive, but you have to look at show’s like South Park, who can get away with very controversial topics and opinions on their show, such as the whole Mohammad thing. Just in 2001 Mohammad was shown on South Park fully uncensored, and no one cared then. Clone High should easily be allowed back on the air today.”

2) Who is involved with this twitter profile and how did you guys come up with the concept? How did you guys meet, how long have you known each other? etc

Danny: “It’s just me and Alessandro who run it, he takes care of stuff like emails and promoting the account, I do a lot of the tweeting and stuff. We went to primary school together but didn’t really hang out or anything, and then started to talk more mid-way through high school, which we are still currently at. I don’t think many of our followers realise we’re only 15 haha.”

3) What are some of your favorite memories of Clone High?

Danny: “Obsessively singing the theme tune around the house when I first discovered the show back in Dec 2009/Jan 2010. I’m sure it got on everyone’s nerves. I also have the final scene of the last episode were all the clones get frozen on my iPod, and I watched that quite a lot, despite it being quite depressing and technically the end of the show. For now…”
Alessandro: “I got hooked on the show after seeing Fat Elvis talk about his lunch, and then make the world’s best gargling sound as he chokes on tranquillizers. I still burst out loud just thinking about it. I also love Abe’s argument with Cleo, where he says “Oh I have eyes Cleo. They’re below my EYEBROWS!” You’ll have to find the episode to understand that one!”

4) Which characters do you feel you and your friend are most like?

Danny: “I can relate to Abe and his quest for acceptance I guess. Although I don’t think I’d want to be accepted into a group of modern teens, all that dubstep and whatnot, not my thing at all. I also relate to Abe’s tallness, it can be an issue sometimes, but I’m not too tall, at least. I’d agree with Alessandro in saying he is like

George Washington Carver, except he’s good at working on computers, not anthropomorphic peanuts.”

Alessandro: “Yes, we’re listening… (More peanut references). I can relate myself to George Washington Carver in the fact that I’m a total social outcast for some reason or other. I just don’t have a talking edible sidekick, although I do wish for one.”

5) Are there other animated shows that have been cancelled that you  may want to spread the word about?

Danny: “Not really an animated show, but My Name is Earl! Why on Earth was that cancelled?! And on a cliffhanger, just like Clone High!”
If you want feel free to do some write ups for Clone High with you and your friend on what Clone High means to you and your favorite things about the show.

Alessandro: “Clone High, in my opinion, is the best thing that’s been on MTV in the last decade. I obviously don’t watch the channel now, as it’s filled to the brim with crap. If the show ever was to come back, I’d want it releasing on a different channel, perhaps Comedy Central, as it would be more suited to the style of the show.”

6) Is there anything else you would like to say to our readers?

Danny: “I think I made such a strong attachment to the show because of the humour and how I could relate to the high school aspect at the time I got into, and still can today. At the time I discovered the show, I was getting into Scrubs quite a bit, which was the reason which led me to find it. I was hooked instantly, and I sat at my computer for over 2 hours watching as many episodes as I could. The support I’ve seen from other fans on Twitter is phenomenal, so many people show love for the show, and I rarely see negative things said about it. This is something, I believe, that many people have a passionate desire for, and would be overjoyed to see return to our TVs. I feel lucky to have spoken to two of the creators over Twitter and see them show interest in reviving the show, and I’m glad that we could put hope back into other fans of the show who’ve waiting so long for it to return. I really hope that, with our account, other fans and petitions, we can revive the wonderful show that is Clone High.”
