English Dub Review: Toilet-bound Hanako-Kun “The Hell of Mirrors, Part 2”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

In an unexpected twist from the previous episode, Hanako’s sadistic brother Tsukasa rescues Nene but has ulterior Motives involving Mitsuba. Meanwhile with the help of the “2nd Wonder”, Kou and Hanako begin a rescue mission to save Nene in the Mirror World, and given his history with Mitsuba, It’s goes about as well as you’d expect…

Our Take

I gotta give massive points for how they turned Kou into a respectable character, and the growth we see in this episode does him more justice than the first few episodes where he was the punchline to several jokes & blunders. It’s especially tragic that while Kou is reminiscing over the time he spent together with Mitsuba as friends, and yet Mitsuba has no recollection because in a sense he isn’t the same individual in terms of appearance and personality.

If I have any other complaints, this episode felt so damn short, so much happened and there was never a dull moment. I really hope there’s some way it making Mitsuba remember who he is and to save him, but it’s hinted that maybe least looking through the gardening club book would help him realize his old passion for photography. Too bad the ending of this arc was kinda anti-climatic. The next episode should be a big deal since it’s said to be the season finale. It makes me with wish season was longer due to so many unanswered questions about Hanako & Tsukasa’s past. I don’t feel like 12 episodes were enough to really have everyone shine.

Let’s hope the next episode ends this season on a high note.
