English Dub Season Review: Why the Hell are You here, Teacher!? Season One

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Off the latest batch from the ecchi manga conveyer belt is “Why the Hell are You here, Teacher!?”, the newest in the “I can’t believe it’s not Hentai!” line, following the lives of four couples of male students and their female teachers as they find romance through the usual scenarios such as inserting a suppository, getting a kids meal toy stuck in your cleavage, pissing in a bucket, or being restrained by conveniently placed fishing line! I mean, there’s more conventional setups, but those last few definitely stuck out in my mind. It’s actually kind of hard to give this show a critical eye since I’m not sure this is something that is designed for more conscious thought than the amount it takes for your hand to reach down your boxers.

Honestly, be frank with me, dear reader. Are you really worried about whether or not this is a good show? This is 100% pure cut spank material with every bit of writing effort made to thinly justify each plot get as steamy as possible. And I swear to god I am not here to judge that. Shows like this are made to market to a VERY niche demographic, so as long as it’s not incest or pedophilia (the latter of which they barely skip past by making the guys on the verge of graduation) and is between consenting adults, I’ve got no issue with people enjoying what they’re into. So, if dating one of your teachers is what you’re into and you’ve got a fetish for the types shown in this series, then you’re likely to enjoy this for its intended purpose no matter what I said.

To the show’s credit, it is pretty short, running at twelve minutes an episode, so you could probably finish the season in less than three hours. The problem that arises is that this was very clearly put together on a budget, which becomes VERY apparent at certain points…but I honestly don’t know if its audience is going to notice depending on where they are in their…session. Though that might take a little longer than expected, because the folks at HiDive decided to release their dub with the CENSORED version of the show, meaning anything even remotely racy is going to be met with chibi versions of the female cast glaring or laughing at you for being here for exactly what you came here for. I mean, come on, don’t judge me! You knew why you made this show, I’m just here to make the most of it! I get enough of this treatment in the dating pool, I don’t need it coming from fictional characters!

All in all, if you have the slightest passing interest in this or the manga it’s based on, what I say here isn’t going to matter much (though I do appreciate you giving this a read). There’s a number of reasons why this sort of material has thrived as long as it has, and for cases like this one, analysis and critical thinking are not what you come for. What you come for is…well, you get the picture. Give it a watch if you feel the urge, but if you expect a story of any sort of comprehension, stay away.
