“Family Time”

As the Battler party starts the students vote for their favorite Battlers just as their parents turn up for the party. Iruma prepares the remaining fireworks before Clara’s 5 and Asmodeus’s respective families with comic hijinx ensuing. As the sun sets they set off the fireworks and Iruma declares his new family to be his pride and joy before insisting on posing for a photograph with Sullivan and Opera. With the voting over the winner of the Battler Party is decided.

Our Take

This is possibly the first time the show has used the “two-episode format” which feels oddly out of place for an Anime. It’s not like the anime series “Panty & Stocking” where an animation team from Japan replicated the art styles of American cartoons and mixed it with crude parody. But here I guess it works since they at least both connect with each other. Kirio finally gets arrested and Iruma has become the most popular guy in school but I have a feeling that Kirow’s role in the story is not over yet. The Battler party kicks off with the parents stopping by to enjoy the festivities. Most of the time this show often excels with characters more interesting than the protagonist himself, and rarely you find yourself liking them, But much like Goku, Iruma is in different ways a flawed character, but his charm and purity comes across as very natural. He doesn’t try to be a good person, he just is.

While the arc’s ending foreshadows possible future events we can expect plot-wise, this wasn’t without flaws. For starters, the director has taken the lazy way out of incompetently recycling various animations such as backgrounds and scenery which blatantly felt like needless padding, and nowhere is this painfully spotlighted than a particular scene that keeps cutting to a specific panning shot. But to make things worse, it felt like a rushed copy/paste job with a few random character crowd shots that were refilled with different colors to give the illusion a big crowd.

In terms of the writing and characters, it still remains a decent two-part episode, but the animation leaves more to be desired.
