English Dub Review: Welcome to Demon School Iruma Kun! “Glorious Award; Treatment of Humans”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

“Glorious Award”

The Closing Spectacle from the last two episodes begins with the handing out of prizes. The Succubus Battler receives an upgraded club room, the New Magic Battler a year’s supply of black holy water, while the grand prize of rank increases is given to the Broadcast Battler. Naberius announces that, for unspecified reasons, an extra award has been created, the prize for which is one member of the Battler will go up by one rank.

“Treatment of Humans”

Amelie ‘s father, Henri, takes an interest in Iruma. Amelie summons Iruma to read romance manga due to the Japanese language being foreign to the demon world but rushes out after seeing her father. Henri confronts Iruma, not knowing why Sullivan is so attached to him. Henri then tells Iruma an interesting story…

Our Take

It seems like the show is finally back on track again after that last arc dragged a bit in places. Arguably, being stuck in the Demon World has become a blessing in disguise for Iruma as we see him getting things he never had in the human world. Friends, two possible love interests, and being popular. But predictably, this newfound popularity is not without its own consequences…

The second episode was semi-focused on Amelie and the introduction of her father who just so happens to be the head of the Demon Border Patrol against Iruma’s Grandpa Sullivan at the time of the incident of Baal’s whistle-blowing. We also see Iruma and Amelie get more screen time mostly through scenes where they’re reading more romance manga. And the comical interactions between Amelie ‘s father also made me chuckle a few times. It was also funny how Amelie tried to explain to her father what she and Iruma do in their mostly platonic “alone time” together. Talking about Love, Relationships, and the Future which understandably caused Amelie ‘s father to have a heart attack just like any concerned father who is worried about their daughter being in such a relationship even though the absent-minded and dopey Iruma doesn’t have anyone in mind romantically.
