English Dub Review: Warlords of Sigrdrifa “Retaking Tateyama Air Base!”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Sonoka tries to get into her plane but her fear holds her back and the other pilots go in her stead. The adults figure out their options for the baby’s delivery, and when it gets too unbearable for her she opens the charm that Yayoi gave her. She laughs at the note before she heads to her plane to fly again. Miyako battles the Pillar however the core keeps on regenerating right after she destroys it. Sonoka arrives to lend Miyako a hand, and together they take out the Pillar and retake the Tateyama base.

Meanwhile, Azuzu and Claudia escape from Valhalla however they lose one of their escorts in the process. They return and meet up with Sonoka and Miyako as the birth of the baby happens. Afterward, Azuzu reveals what they recorded in Valhalla, the history of gods. She reveals that Odin lied about Ragnarok as it passed with the age of the gods. Then Odin is in Vahalla claiming that Ragnarok isn’t over.

Our Take:

The episode was good, the girls were able to retake the base and Sonoka regains the ability to fly again. However, the reveal of Odin’s secret was okay, it does bring up a good question.

For starters Sonoka regaining her courage to fly again after reading the note in Yayoi’s charm is good. Sonokla laughing hysterically for a moment did make me think that she broke down. However, she snaps out of her fear with Yayoi’s words on not being a baby anymore and goes to help Miyako. The Pillar’s ability to rewind time with the gears is a good challenge for the girls. I can’t help but think the Pillar foreshadowed Odin’s secret with his denial that Ragnarok is already over.

Then there’s Azuzu and Claudia’s escape from Valhalla. It’s interesting how Claudia can use her powers as a Valkyrie to bless her katana. It was able to hold off against the warriors of Valhalla in comparison to the guns their escorts had. Azuzu going through her revelation of Odin’s secret was good as Claudia had to snap her out of it in order to escape. Claudia’s parting words to the soldier who gave his life to make sure they escaped safely was bittersweet and worked well to tug at the heartstrings.

The reveal of Odin’s secret that Ragnarok was over before the age of humans was okay. That news makes the group question what in the world they’ve been fighting towards and try to shake their resolve, but the impact is lost as we cut to the ending. It leaves a question on the true origins of the Pillars. If they aren’t a product of Ragnarok then did Odin do something to cause the Pillars? His denial of Ragnarok already happening is intense, and it would explain why Thor is in a Pillar or why when the Pillar’s core gets destroyed a tree pops out.

Overall the episode was a win for the girls with their teamwork. However, Odin’s secret is going to force them to question everything about their god and the Pillars.
