English Dub Review: Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out “Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out More!”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Uzaki shows up at Sakurai’s doorstep saying that she can’t hang out with him anymore. The reason being that she didn’t finish her report during the summer break and refuses to help. Afterwards Ami’s dad throws out his back and Sakurai goes to take him to the chiropractor while the girls discuss Uzaki and Sakurai’s first meeting and how over Uzaki has begun to be more sincere like Sakurai.

When Sakaki stops by the cafe Uzaki asks him how much it would take to get Sakurai drunk, and proceeds to get Sakurai drunk at his house to see what type of drunk he is. However when she only hears the first words of Sakurai loving her cooking she drinks herself to a stupor, and Sakaki arrives to check up on them. The next day they wake up side by side in the futon, unable to recall the events from last night. This leads to Uzaki slipping out that they were next to each other which prompts Ami and her dad to bribe them to find out the details. Afterwards summer break ends and Sakurai and Uzaki are walking to class at the college and they hang out more even after summer break.

Our Take:

It’s been a fun ride to see Uzaki and Sakurai banter with each other, and Uzaki’s issue turns out to be her report for class. Uzaki’s attempt to rope Sakurai into helping her was amusing, but I hoped for a decent conflict to start and resolve the problem. The voice acting was good although I wasn’t expecting Uzaki’s brother to make an appearance this late in the anime.

Additionally there’s Uzaki and Sakurai’s first meeting when she joins the swim club as a manager. Even she started out scared because of his sharp eyes, but gradually got to know him better. Ami bringing up his influence on how sincere she’s become was a good comment to show how much she’s changed from just being a teasing friend towards Sakurai. Personally I might have missed that if I didn’t think back to previous episodes where it does show that she cares even with her teasing.

Then there’s Uzaki’s plan to get Sakurai drunk to see what type he is and it turns out he’s the sleepy mumbling drunk. That entire scene was hilarious with Uzaki misunderstanding his love comment. Then the morning after and their memory gaps provided another comedy filled scene with Ami and her dad just eating up the situation when the two talk about it in the cafe. Then the last scene where Sakurai says that we’ll always be together was good even though he meant that as them hanging out.

Overall this final episode just emphasized on how Uzaki and Sakurai’s relationship will continue as a platonic one despite the romantic teasers. It’s a bit frustrating to watch them just hang out, but it’s a decent platonic relationship show to get into for the season if you’re not that into romance animes.
