English Dub Review: Urusei Yatsura “The Glove of Love and Conflict/ How I’ve Waited for You…”

Overview:

Hellooooo, nurse! A new nurse just started working at Ataru’s school, and she’s a total babe… but wait. Does she look familiar?

Our Take:

The shrine maiden is back and now she’s the school nurse. But she is still an exorcist so people bring some cursed boxing gloves to her. Wouldn’t you know that one of them ends up in the possesion of Ataru. One of the gloves is loving while the other wants to punch everything. It was nice seeing him take his own punches in order to protect Lum from being hit.

Ataru is still Ataru however and he reverts back to his old self fast. Other guys in class are jealous of all the attention that Mendo is getting from the females in class so they devise a plan to knock him down a peg. Only it doesn’t quite go how they want when the fake woman who is in love with Ataru needs to make an appearance. Luckily, Lum overhears their plan and steps into help.

So now this series can go one of two ways and unfortunately, I think I know which way it’s going to go. The ending of this episode saw Ataru noticing how attractive Lum is (DUH!) and asking her to walk with him and hold his hand. I would like to see this be a turning point for him as he starts to point his affections towards the right place. But a show needs conflict and based on how long this series goes I don’t see that happening but at least this episode was enjoyable.
