English Dub Review: To Your Eternity “The Value of Flesh”

Overview

Having finished training on the derelict ship, Fushi travels to Renril, where the Nokkers are threatening to attack…

Our Take

This time around, Fushi and the others proceed onwards to the town of Renril, as they prepare while evaluating what needs to be done to protect the town. Bon, back in Uralis, anticipates the support of the Uralis army, which sees its full support. But one person, Kai Renald Rawle, questions Bon of his intentions to weed out the disloyal, and the former is thankful that it was a test on purpose to truly give loyalty to where it counts. And sure enough, Bon DID find those ordinary people to be Fushi’s vessels: Kai, former Bennett guard Hario Rich, and Messar.

As for the meeting with Renril’s princess to get all info, it was a tit-for-tat exchange that they don’t have the luxury of when the Nokkers attack. But Fushi isn’t on board the idea and fought with Bon. Fushi needs to gain the trust, of the Renril people, Renril’s ruler. But why Bon can not tell the truth? Instead, we have Kai stopping Fushi for a game and telling him of his backstory where the Nokkers destroyed his entire village, then his entire family due to old age, enough to run to Uralis.

Overall, I love how Fushi is gradually becoming a more nuanced character and showing actual cracks of humanity when the story demands it. Seeing him get angry, distrustful, frustrated, and even acting rashly are sides we often never saw or rarely did for that matter. Loyalty and trust seem to be the themes for this arc so far, and some new characters were introduced, with Kai Renald Rawle, who knew Bon’s true identity, Hario Rich, and Messar. And some unusual moral lessons with a weird-ass board game, called “Mills” which looks eerily similar to the Othello board game for some reason. Hopefully, we can see this level of development progress further in later episodes.
