English Dub Review: The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat: “Quantum of Trust”

Overview: After being tied up as a ‘loose end’ by the organization that raised him, Lugh (Christian Banas) begins life anew when presented with an opportunity from a Goddess.

Our Take: This very self-explanatory titled Isekai wastes no time at all in getting straight to the point of the main character, Lugh, and his new reincarnated life and his code of honor he lives by. One that differs greatly from his past life as shown by how well aptly and swiftly it transitions from it to his old cynical way of thinking in how little he cares for the greater good of humanity as a whole. The debut episode manages to do a good job of establishing both of his lives and balancing off of one another. That same sentiment can not be applied to the consistency of quality regarding the writing, unfortunately. That’s not to say there aren’t shining moments, like that of Lugh’s tutelage to a young rookie assassin about emotions and maintaining a constant distrust. However, there is also plenty of lazy and paint-by-numbers dialogue that reminds you that you are indeed watching an Isekai, clichéd aspects and all. Like Lugh explaining how he feels rather than showing it or the main protagonist’s moniker of “World’s Finest Assassin” reiterated, by the Goddess who resurrected him, in a repeated and contrived manner, because apparently we couldn’t tell that much from with how well Lugh trained the new assassin recruit while also proficiently fulfilling the mission that he was tasked with.

The animation is superb throughout with it being masterfully executed as that of Lugh’s targets with detailed character clothing and designs present and maintained throughout the fast paced action sequences, which can be extremely difficult. There is a strong mold in place for this show to be enjoyably fun and character driven, but is also one that does not seem to be immune to the generic characteristics of the genre it hails from, that have been seen time and time again.
