English Dub Review: The Silver Guardian “Suigin’s New Journey!”

The Silver Guardian picks up from where “Suigin Meets Takeshi!” left off in “Suigin’s New Journey!” Takeshi and Suigin have entered the ring. Unfortunately, Takeshi doesn’t continue.

Suigin Riku offers to take Takeshi’s place and take down Mammoth Viking. I enjoy how Mammoth Viking uses antiquated diction like “asunder.” This totally adds a mythic element. Like much of the series, it reminds me of playing a role playing game (RPG) such as Diablo.

Suigin wins with teamwork. Twinstar intervenes to aid Suigin in taking down Mammoth Viking. The legendary Twin-Headed Jade Dragon emerges. It turns out Twin Star can pull off this feat. The episode culminates in Suigin winning the match.

Although it’s a fun episode, it’s pretty anticlimactic for a season finale. It’s pretty clear Suigin gets stuck in Grave Buster. That much is revealed in the first episode. Unfortunately, “Suigin’s New Journey!” doesn’t resolve any of the conflicts from the rest of the season. Instead, it merely clears up the previous episode and sets the stage for a battle against The Collector.

For a short show, there really should have been more of an emphasis on driving the story and resolving the conflict. As such, there wasn’t and the season just sort of falters. It’s not necessarily that as a standalone episode “Suigin’s New Journey!” is that bad. Rather, it’s a major let down as a season finale. It makes the season finale of The X-Files: The Event (not to be confused with the season 9 finale which I loved), look like a coherent masterpiece.
