English Dub Review: The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent “Interlude”

Overview

We delve into Aria’s side of the story when we learn the Kingdom’s mages summoned a Saint, with Aira being whisked off along with said “Saint” in the process. Now ward to the Crown Prince and unable to return home, Aira must make a new life in a fantasy realm…

Our Take

Finally, an episode on Aira was long overdue. I have wanted to know about her since the beginning. And her reaction to the sudden change of location and inability to go back home is more real than Sei’s situation. On that note, it also succeeded in making us the audience sympathize with her situation. I really like how everything was portrayed; for example, her parents and their impact on her personality and lack of courage and assertiveness (she’s the type to not always express what she wants) and how now Kyle took that role, sense of duty, and even though she is pretty observant her social awkwardness came in her way of realizing the social norms of their world.

Of course, Sei is older and more mature than her, that’s why she was able to handle her situation well, but Aira is also doing the best she can. Since she was absent for so long, I was afraid if she would becoming a Diva. And boy, Prince Kyle deserves to be on the cover of punchable face magazine because his idiocy is the root cause of all these specific problems. I get that he’s genuinely looking after Aira. But if you asked me, he kept digging himself a deeper hole.

Overall, this was a passable episode that recontextualizes what we know about Aria and Prince Kyle. Aria remains sympathetic in a different way, while Kyle’s methods of Isolating Aira from others will do her no good. And the fact Kyle didn’t choose Sei because of her appearance is stupid and rude. If he wasn’t so biased in the first place and didn’t behave like a troll on social media or a “Woke” celebrity forcibly pushing their agenda on a Netflix show, this situation would not have happened to begin with! And yet, he bullheadedly doubled down and committed to his lies and bad decisions despite knowing what he did was wrong. I truly hope Kyle gets his well-deserved Karma as the show progresses…
