English Dub Review: The Executioner and Her Way of Life “[Regression: Memories, Soul, Spirit]”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
An ominous plot unfolds, trapping Akari and Menou in its center. But help is coming from the outside — and from within, too, if Menou can play her cards just right.

Our Take:
This was supposed to be the end of Menou’s mission, but that dumb archbishop has to screw that up for her. If you’re just joining me on this journey, the show reveals that Orwell, Menou’s “trustworthy” superior, is the one behind the disappearance of young women. Additionally, she plots to make herself young again by using Akari’s Pure Concept to reverse her aging. Even worse, Orwell’s also the one who destroyed Menou’s village when she messed with an outworlder’s power. Now that’s a perfect excuse for the executioner to whoop that archbishop’s ass.
The show’s halfway point is undoubtedly one action sequence extended to its 23-minute length. Menou squares off against Orwell and her monster while Momo and Ashuna battle the creatures in the summoning chamber. While a bit excessive, the episode provides plenty of exhilarating moments in the fight between a priestess and the archbishop. However, it’s not without a few teases on what’s in store for the show’s second half.
One of the elements that I was surprised to see in the episode was Momo’s immense power. After her hair ribbons got destroyed by one of the monsters, Momo got extremely pissed and used a powerful spell to destroy everything in sight. Thankfully, Ashuna survived the blast so that she could kill the remaining monster with her magic sword. The main reason for Momo going apeshit is that the hair ribbons were a gift from Menou, resulting in Momo promising not to let anything happen to them. Fortunately for Momo, Menou gave her some new braids to wear after the battle. Seeing that Momo has strong affections for Menou, it would be very troubling if Akari keeps unintentionally getting in her way.
As for what’s to come in the future, the episode showcases Akari having a worrying vision of Menou’s demise after the latter fails to kill her, leaving Flare to finish the job herself. This resulted in Akari hoping for Menou to execute her before that happens. It also represents Akari consciously using her Pure Concept to free herself before erasing her knowledge about it herself. So it appears that Akari gets her memories back whenever her Pure Concept activates automatically. At least, that’s what I’m getting.
The show’s sixth episode is an exciting conclusion to its season’s first half that left more mysteries to uncover in the future. With Orwell dead and the chamber destroyed, it looks like Menou would have to find an alternative solution to execute her powerful target. Hopefully, she’ll find one soon before her tragic fate arrives.
