English Dub Review: The Duke of Death and His Maid “The Duke, Alice, and a Song for Two”

Overview:

Alice struggles with conflicting emotions after she learns from the Duke that he would break ties with his family if his mother doesn’t approve of them getting married after his curse is broken.

Our Take:

The reality of the situation is finally being discussed. When and if the curse is broken the Duke and Alice will have a hard time being together because of societal norms. It’s kind of nice that they aren’t just going to gloss over that subject. It will be difficult for them to get a “happily ever after” just because they love each other. But I am glad that they both know how the other feels without tiptoeing around it for four hundred episodes.

I don’t think any of that will be resolved before this series comes to an end but with the manga coming here sometime this year they got me intrigued. I really love how cute Alice and the Duke are together. They are probably the cutest anime couple of the year and yes I will probably vote for them at the Crunchyroll Awards if that’s an option. Rob is also an excellent character who has been shown to truly care for the couple and wants nothing but for them to be happy. I am really glad this show is back and while I was upset the song in this didn’t get dubbed it was still a good song to listen to.
