English Dub Review: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: “The Visitors”

Overview: After reviving Veldora (Chris Ranger) into a new body, Rimuru (Brittany Karbowski) and him host a festival with the rest of Tempest and then later convene a meeting on how they will progress moving forward.

Our Take: If you thought Veldora’s big and boisterous personality couldn’t be contained in his smaller body then you were absolutely right my friends. He has the same sort of chemistry with Rimuru that is a greater extension of their short lived friendship established in the first few episodes of the series. Meaning Rimuru is like that of an even-tempered friend who is embarrassed by and has to look after his high spirited buddy, or bff as Veldora puts it. If you loved their relationship beforehand, you’ll most assuredly find humorous enjoyment in it now.

This episode, for the most part, just serves as a nice reprieve for Tempest after all the grim carnage they have been through recently. And it also features the biggest miracle to rain upon Rimuru yet. Arguably just as big as reviving everyone and him becoming a demon lord. Yes, that’s right Shion can actually cook good food. On a comedic note, I also sure as heck didn’t expect Rimuru to actually criticize the elements in her death stew that she’s so fond of and found his incessant ranting funny even more so because of that, along with how even though the taste is great it’s witch’s brew look still remains and ruins both Rimuru and Benimaru’s appetite nonetheless.

After their fun reunion, a meeting that will decide how Tempest is going to proceed will take place and will feature some heavy hitters in the archduke of the Sorcerer’s Dynasty Sarion, Erald Grimwald, who is also Eren’s father and Gazel Dwargo, king of Dwargon. Erald at first comes off as your average egotistical antagonist at first but then charmingly transitions to an overbearing dad to Eren. It’s the kind of father daughter relationship you’ve seen in countless other anime but by no means does that make it any less endearing to watch, especially during Eren’s adorable blushing. The more lighthearted moments along with the anticipation of a grand meeting of nations in the next entry makes “The Visitors” a good transitional episode as well as enjoyable.
