English Dub Review: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: “Rimuru’s Busy Life”

Overview: Rimuru Tempest (Brittany Karbowski) returns in the much anticipated second season as he seeks to make peace with the Kingdom of Eurazonia for the good of his nation, The Jura Tempest Federation, and all its people.

Our Take: When we got that snoozefest of episode 24.9, there was one thing I was sure we were past by now. More freaking recap. In all fairness, it is only a few minutes and it didn’t take away too much from the genuine fun I had. Although, when you dedicate an entire episode to solely that just previously, it feels as if you are being suffocated by an actual slime. It would have been so easy to simply cut the segment out, make the episode a slime shorter than waste time trudging through the sliminess of it all once again. Also expect a least a couple more slime puns until I get bored. No matter how slimy they may be.

Rimuru has always been a breath of fresh slime air, as far as protagonists go. The slippery slime has always strove for peace over conflict when possible.

For the benefit of not just monsterkind but everyone who chooses to forge relationships with them, despite the hot water that he could put himself and his nation in. It’s this kind and generous nature throughout the series but, most importantly, this episode, that demonstrates how you come to respect the jolly gelatin throughout. Especially when he invites in potential enemies in the hopes for mutual friendship, in that of the Kingdom of Eurazonia. Which also brings me to the other strong component of this episode and Rimuru as a whole, which is how competitive he gets and how doesn’t shy away from a fight when challenged. It’s always nice to see these quirks that make Rimuru more charming and break from his usual laidback chilled personality. It’s also a good segway into getting some sick fights which is exactly what we got in the last few minutes of “Rimuru’s Busy Life.”

Although before that we’re introduced to two members of Carrion’s Three Beastketeers, The Golden Serpent, Albis, and The White Tiger Claw, Suphia.  These two beastly beauties establish themselves so well they’d be just as engaging whether they turn out to be allies or enemies. Albis is cordial yet very imposing, whilst Suphia is just the cheekiest little spitfire that I can already tell is going to be a favorite of mine. And what better way to greet each other than to beat the absolute crap out of each other right? We are left with a treat that is short but sweet as Shion decides enough is enough and to shut up The White Tiger Claw while Albis gives Youm one of her carriage drivers, Grucius, to fight. Slime has always been slick in it’s fight scenes from day 1 and I’m glad to see some things never change. Quick movements are lightning quick and swift and without degradation of the character designs either which is always a plus. The only downside is that it’s so damn short and honestly felt it should’ve been longer because of how much the episode was leading up to it. Most likely it’ll bleed into the next episode and hopefully so as it would be a bit anticlimactic if the conflict was solved off screen and just moved on to another one without a proper resolution.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime gets in the zone with it’s slime dunk of an opening episode and offers a slimesational time for returning fans (before you ask, yes, these slime puns were necessary).
