English Dub Review: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: “Paradise, Once More”

Overview: Rimuru (Brittany Karbowski) arrives in Dwargon in the hopes of having nothing but smooth sailing with Gazel (Bill Butts) and his nation.

Our Take: Aw Rimuru. The strongest slime probably ever. The greatest public speaker, he is not. But that’s, ironically, one of the strengths of “Paradise Once More”, as we see Rimuru struggle to be the kind of leader similar to that of Gazel perhaps. The strong qualities that are inherent in that of a leader act as a good opposition for him as tries to make a good impression on others. But like this episode reiterates throughout and while it was something that most already knew, it’s his earnest humble nature that makes him so likable and relatable too. Just being an all-around good hearted person but also not veering on self righteous or pompous keeps Rimuru as endearing as ever. Also in this episode and not unnoticed, is how teasing of a new conflict on the horizon in that of the Kingdom of Falmuth. With word of a greedy king at the helm of the nation, one can already begin to see where the conflict may lie when Rimuru comes into contact with him. Slime makes all sorts of various opponents for Rimuru in that of external threats along with political ones and because of his nature. It’ll be nice to see those various types of issues progress and for Rimuru, along with Tempest, to grow along with him, despite how their relations with other territories transpire and what becomes of it.

But it also wouldn’t be Slime without the occasional bouncy things that aren’t Rimuru. And alcohol. Plenty of it. It’s always fun when the series takes a load off especially with the variety of conflicts often at their doorstep. But even with that the show never loses focus. As evident by Rimuru looking for feedback on his sweet apple booze. With every visit to different places, besides good public relations, there’s always something to be gained for the Tempest, showing the savvy business side of him as well. This episode also teases the arrival of the Mjurran, one of Clayman’s underlings, as she infiltrates Youm’s group. The speedy setting up of storylines is appreciated to make every minute count for one thing but also for pacing reasons now and down the line.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime teases new conflicts and builds upon pre existing friendships allowing the Jura Tempest Federation, and this episode, to prosper.
