English Dub Review: Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town? “Suppose You Were Just Pretending to be Lovers, but Somehow the Pretense Transforms into the Real Deal?”

Overview:

Lloyd and Selen go on a “date” to investigate much to the joy of Selen. Turns out the secretary Minoki is the one with the treant parasite. Everyone comes together to save the day.

Our Take:

What I really like about this show is does nice little short and sweet arcs. We don’t need a whole season-long arc just a couple of little good ones. Though it does feel like something bigger is being orchestrated in the background. Plus, Lloyd’s friend from Kunlun seems sheisty, maybe that’s just me.

We got a rare moment of “realness” between Lloyd and Selen. With the show focusing so much on comedy I expected some there too but I was glad it kept to the somber tone at that moment. Lloyd feels weak and that he relies on everyone too much while Selen still has some hangups about when she was cursed. Seeing them in a situation like that hopes that Selen’s dreams do come true and she gets to marry Lloyd.

Just a few scenes later Kikyou tries to sneak up on Lloyd but well… it’s Lloyd so of course, it doesn’t work. She still thinks Lloyd has the parasite so she has a special ointment that she offers to massage Lloyd. Things almost get R-18 when she starts to think the parasite might be under his pants. Selen comes back right then and starts doing yandere things or as I call it… best girl things.

If your money was on the secretary being the villain then congrats you win! Gave Ian Sinclair a bit more to do this episode and he once again puts in a stellar job. The villain was defeated after Lloyd showed up, he hilariously thought it was just cosplay. Like that is a bit of a negative if I have to say. Sure, it’s funny but how many times are we gonna do the same type of gag?

This episode wraps up a little mini-arc and we are getting into the final quarter of the season. It’s not the best show around but it knows its strengths and sticks to them. Make sure you stay tuned cause I think things will get a little more hectic near the end.
