English Dub Review: Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town? ” Suppose the Obviously Superior Contestant Wins, but the Clearly Inferior Contestant also Wins?”

Overview(Possible Spoilers):

Selen loses the contest for being too physical. Lloyd wins by being Lloyd, and Phyllo now wants to marry Lloyd. Something tells me that won’t sit right with Selen.

Our Take:

This show continues to take tropes and make them hilarious. Lloyd is almost too overpowered to care at this point but seeing him “breathe underwater” during the competition was delightfully amusing. This show doesn’t try too many new things but what it does, it makes sure it does well. I can respect that, master what you need to especially for something that is pretty niche like this.

Lloyd got a new member of his harem this week. Sure, Phyllo wanted to be his protege but after having an arm-wrestling match that took to the sky (yes you read that right) and losing she wants to marry him. She believes their children would be the strongest in the world and I can’t help but agree with her.

Selen wasn’t in this episode too much but she was great while she was and with the addition of Phyllo, I can see some fun hijinks coming up soon. The characters in this are simple but well done, unlike other shows. I won’t name names but reviewing this show is always a fun palette cleanser for me. Everyone’s motivations are clear and concise but with enough ambiguity that certain reveals are enjoyable. Nothing earth-shattering really but still fun to be had.

Between this and my recent rewatch of Fruits Basket, I have gained a lot of respect for Elizabeth Maxwell. The last couple of episodes have been pretty Riho-focused and she has done a great job with this arc. I know I gush about Billy Kametz every chance I can get but hearing him walk into the witch’s office and say “So, I have been having an issue with my hemorrhoids lately…” was amazing and I wanted to mention it.

This show brings a lot of joy to my Monday’s and I am really glad it got a dub for more people to enjoy it. We are at the halfway point of the season and that feels a little bittersweet to me. I am really going to miss this one when it’s gone. This show is great and it kind of feels like a fantasy One Punch Man. Everyone just holds out until the OP hero shows up. That show nails it and so does this one.
