English Dub Review: Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 “Yamato’s Successor, its name is Ginga”

There’s a lot going on here.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

The Yamato crashes on a strange planet but half of the crew decide to abandon ship and find themselves on what’s proposed to be the Yamato successor known as the Ginga. Right away the Yamato crew and the Ginga crew don’t exactly see eye-to-eye, except for the fact that they have a united cause in not being obliterated by the Gatlantians.

While on the abandoned planet, what’s left of the Yamato crew is trying to become more familiar with their surroundings and Yuko wakes up just in time to scare off a potential assassination attempt. But can they get the Yamato back into action? We’ll have to wait until next week to find out.

Our Take

An interesting development this week certainly putting some new horsepower under the hood for Earth’s survival. The plot developments are a bunch of fun, especially with Yuko waking up with amnesia and not knowing who anyone is. Not only that, but we kick off the  “Resurrection Chapter” with not only a potential assassination attempt, but also a Yamato crew member begging to off-himself entirely. On top of all of this, don’t be surprised if this Yamato crew makes a few more changes to the upper management tiers of the Ginga. Christ, the crew just did a killer job of downing their own ship without almost any help, there’s no reason to believe that they can’t take down another ship.
