English Dub Review: STAR BLAZERS: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 “”Teresa, Cry for Dessler!””

Looks like you just got your $20 mil.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

This week’s episode is all about Dessler…Dessler, Dessler, Dessler. Yep, we get some back story on ol’man Dessler and we learn that the Gamilan that has been riding along with us all season is actually Dessler’s nephew who appears to have made a rash decision as we close the episode.

Our Take

You can think of the latest episode of Yamato 2202 in a couple of different ways: 1) Dessler was a dick or 2) Dessler was just doing what was necessary to keep his planet alive. If you believe the latter, then you could literally go back and watch 2199 with a different vantage point and almost get a completely different show out of it. Moreover, the art direction for this cour of Star Blazers is continuing to blow me away, most notably during the flashback scenes and the plot is as juicy as an Outback steakhouse 8 oz. If Star Blazers continues on its roll, it might be even better than 2199, and possibly an early front runner for best anime.
