English Dub Review: Spy x Family “A Revenge Plot Against Desmond/ Mama Becomes The Wind” “Investigate The General Hospital/ Decipher The Perplexing Code”

Overview:

Damian does well on his midterms, so he earns a Stella. Everyone around him is now praising him, but for some reason, his classmate George seems to be looking at him begrudgingly. The reason being…

After seeing Anya off to school, Yor finds Anya’s gym clothes on top of her desk. At this rate, Anya will surely have trouble in her gym class. Yor runs to deliver the forgotten clothes!

Anya has to write a report about an occupation she’s interested in, so she ends up going to Loid’s place of work, Berlint General Hospital. As soon as Loid was out of sight, Anya starts to explore!

Anya becomes very interested in deciphering codes after seeing it done in her spy cartoon, so she makes her own code and sends Loid and the others secret messages. Will they be able to crack the codes?!

Our Take:

There must have been a little break for the holidays last week or something but it does not feel that way since we got spoiled this week. Two episodes of this and Bluelock?! But were the episodes good? That is the biggest question and as you probably guessed as is usually the case with Spy x Family yes the episodes were in fact good.

The only negative I can really say about the last few episodes is that it hasn’t really been progressing the main plot. They have just been little short stories that mention it but ultimately nothing progresses. This isn’t a problem because some of the best chapters of the manga are those ones but my main worry is that this second cour is all we are going to get of Spy x Family. But this show has been so popular that I am hopeful we get another season.

We also got introduced to one of the other key characters from the OP and ED. It seems she works with Loid and I can’t wait to see how people react to her in future episodes. To me, it sounded like she was voiced by Lindsay Seidel but I could be wrong. I thought I also heard Jad Saxton as the voice of George Glooman. She doesn’t get to voice characters like that very often. It was one of the first times I’ve felt a voice doesn’t match up with a character. Jad is great it just didn’t look like that voice should come out of that face if that makes sense.

Yor and Anya were fantastic as always. The characters of this show are what really set it apart from other anime. For such a dark and depressing idea as the premise of this anime, it’s really one of the most heartwarming anime I’ve watched. Another solid ooting for this anime of the year contender.
