English Dub Review: Sorcerous Stabber Orphen “Shed Bloody Tears, Holy City”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Orphen and friends are separated when they find out their mysterious informant is actually a spy for the city who weeds out dissidents, so Orphen is forced to deal with him.

OUR TAKE
Orphen lives up to his Sorcerous Stabbing name this week as this episode is pretty much just a fight scene against the one trying to kill them and Orphen eventually having to kill them instead. And this time we have a case where I don’t need to have watched the first season to really understand what’s going on, because the main thrust of the conflict is showing how fanatical the leadership here that they have brainwashed the assassin to kill any who try to infiltrate the city. Not only that, the assassin reveals that he’s actually around seventeen, but the drugs they’ve given him have forcibly aged him to look like a middle aged man. I guess the job really ages you, haha. But it also shows that the group running this city to maintain their set level of control are not anything to be underestimated. Orphen and his friends are really going to need to be careful if they plan to get to the bottom of all this, especially since Claiomh has been grievously injured with only Magick to protect her and numerous guards surrounding them. So I think it would be safe to say they’re pretty much boned, wouldn’t you say?

But that’s pretty much everything to talk about regarding the plot of the episode, so let’s spend the rest of this review speculating about what’s to come. Kimluck is definitely proving to be much more deadly than initially thought, which is probably good for the story since that’s where the plot is taking place. We’re coming up on the halfway point of the season, but despite having a bit of a clearer picture regarding who the bigger bads will be, it’s still pretty difficult to tell where the plot will be going at this point. If the ideology is so ingrained and blended into their fighting force, simply taking out those in charge is not going to be enough to free the people under their heel. But given that this is meant to be a fantasy action series, I have a pretty distinct feeling that fighting with magic will most certainly involved in how the conflict is finally resolved. I honestly can’t believe that we’re actually almost halfway done with the season, much like I’m surprised that 2021 is already more than halfway over. We’ll see where the pieces fall in the next episode, which will hopefully have less middle aged teenagers with bloody eyes.
