English Dub Review: Shadows House “Outside the Room”

Overview:

Emilico has been cleaning so well, she is asked to join other dolls in cleaning the rest of the house. There she meets Mia and Lou, two other dolls. While cleaning Kate’s room Emilico spills water on her doll. Kate gets very angry and there is some soot that won’t go away. Later, Kate and Emilico run into Mia and her shadow master Sarah. This is a glimpse into the true nature of shadows and their dolls.

Our Take:

This episode keeps the mystery going and I am here for it. Emilico gets to join other dolls in cleaning the rest of the house. There she meets two dolls, Mia and Lou. Mia seems to be a good friend. She is given a deep-cleaning kit and a soot suit. We finally get to see Kate show some emotion when Emilico spills water on her stuffed doll. Which creates some soot that Emilico can’t scrub away.

Emilico fixes the stuffed doll and even makes one of her own. While showing this to Kate she calms down and is in a better mood. It’s then that the soot starts to disappear, while it’s not outright stated it seems that some of the soot might be linked to the shadow’s state of being at the time.

We also get a look into the social hierarchy with the shadows and dolls. While cleaning Emilico falls from the window, prompting Kate to go check on her. On their way back they run into Mia and her shadow master Sarah. Sarah mentions something about a “debut” and how Kate hasn’t had hers. Mia mimes all of Sarah’s movements and doesn’t speak to Emilico at all. It begs the question of what Kate might be like after her “debut”. I am intrigued to see how Mia is the next time they meet.

Emily Fajardo voices Mia/Sarah and I liked how she had to be two different personalities essentially. I am pretty sure other than Kate and Emilico all the shadows and their dolls share the same VA, making them even more unique. Having said that it will be interesting to see how the different VA’s go about that. Emily has gotten some fairly decent roles recently so she might be an up-and-comer in the dub world. Seems like her character might have a fairly sizeable role at least.

Shadows House has managed to impress two weeks in a row. There is enough mystery and just enough of it being revealed to keep me wanting to come back for more. I really can’t wait to learn more about these shadows and their society.
