English Dub Review: Orient “Shipboard Disgrace”

Overview:

After volunteering to take part in a duel for the leadership of his unit, Musashi is confronted with a grim reality.

Our Take:

I had a feeling Musashi wouldn’t win but I am not sure how I feel about the “lesson” we should be learning. Everybody conforming is okay as long as it’s for the collective good. Just seems like a slippery slope for me. But other than that this was an enjoyable episode and I really like where the story is going in this second arc.

Musashi lost his duel and I was wondering how this new character would fight. Turns out he has Kitetsu blades attached to his legs so he can swing the swords by kicking. It was really interesting and I look forward to seeing more of this character. I cannot find his name anywhere which is annoying but he’s voiced by Aleks Le which gives him a step-up already in my book.

Musashi is learning the hard way that leadership is something that you must earn. You don’t just choose to be a leader, you have to earn it. I think this will do better for him in the long run and Musashi is an interesting character when it comes to anime protagonists. He’s a bit one-note but I think he’s unique enough.
