English Dub Review: Noblesse “A Reason to Fight/Nobility”

Overview

Two immortal visitors by the names of “Regis and Seira”, arrive at Ye Ran High School as part of their investigation into a series of incidents in Japan. Raizel and Frankenstein conceal their identities when they interact with the duo, but the visitors realize that M-21 is a modified human and grow wary of him. Meanwhile, Tashiro is caught up in another fight with street punks on his way home from school…

Our Take

This episode definitely spent more time developing the characters, which is good, but I guess that’s what it’s mostly doing until there are some actual stakes later in the plot. It remains a passable episode even if it’s lacking a focused narrative in favor of some weird-ass slice of life stuff mixed with the supernatural, but the plot needs to be driven forward more quickly within the next couple of episodes. M-21 continued to be the star for this episode. Though I’m not sure why he wants to be called that when it’s a terrible name for a secret agent to have in public and kinda defeats the purpose of going undercover. If you want to keep a low profile, wouldn’t you want to hide your identity and not have your cover blown?

The new characters also got some spotlight this episode, and it was nice to see how they fit into the story. Even though they’re now in a weird living situation towards the end, I hope more will be done with them plot-wise instead of just being used for random humor, although those moments were pretty funny. For a Crunchyroll-funded project, the production design continues to be shockingly low for the animation team Production I.G. but as long as it is enjoyable, that isn’t the worst thing in the world.

Overall a passable episode, but I’m curious to see what direction this will take plot-wise.
