English Dub Review: New Game! “I Shudder to Imagine What’s Hidden in Your Heart”

Open up for this review.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Everyone’s hard at work on the master for Peco and trouble arises when we learn that all of Tsubame’s code has bugs in it leaving the coders little choice but to crunch in order to get the game done on time. Nene becomes a big assist despite an earlier conflict between the two as she learns of Tsubame’s past by way of Momiji in the break room. The bugs get removed, and Nene gets her contract extended while Tsubame gets a full-time gig. We also learn that Ko has asked for her release from Eagle Jump which was overheard by Rin. The episode ends with the girls trying out a nearly completed build for Peco.

Our Take

The dramatic cliffhangers at the end of the last couple of episodes have been very well-directed though I would’ve liked to have seen more of a hero’s journey with Tsubame’s bad code. It honestly felt like the producers kind just rushed over it which really didn’t build a whole lot of suspense as the production of the game went on. The suspense points are instead being given to Ko’s arc of which we should finally get to see finish out on next week’s season two finale.
