English Dub Review: My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! X “I Turned Into a Villain…”

Overview

One of the actors in the play being put on by the student council is injured, and the search is on for an emergency stand-in. As the opening of the curtain draws nearer and nearer, Catarina ends up agreeing to fill the role at Sophia’s request. She’s given a script with a story that sounds very familiar, and now she must take the stage…

Our Take

This episode shows how bad the situation is when you forget some phrase or role of lines that is already something tense for a solution. That whole play turned into a chaotic mess and yet I couldn’t help but laugh at the comedy of errors. The whole time they were just editing the script on the fly to fit around Catarina’s obliviousness until she figured out what she had to actually do. Also, the whole deal with Sophia re-arranging the script with the sole purpose of including her brother in it at least delivered in a few laughs.

At the very least, Catarina did better than expected considering her track record of messing things up. Of course, there were romantic tensions when they took it seriously with Keith, Nicol, and Geordo all fighting for real over Catarina’s affections. You can tell that up to a certain point, shit got real between all 3 of them and went beyond acting.

At this point, there’s already one thing I want from this show after this episode, and I can’t be the only person who feels this way. I want this whole love triangle/unrequited love bullshit to stop. It’s almost much become a mandated trope in every Anime I’ve ever seen and much like the “found footage/POV” horror genre, it’s an epidemic that needs to die in its tracks. None of this unneeded drama does anything to advance the story or characters and comes off as annoying since it started In the adult arc. As for the cliffhanger ending, I’m hoping for everyone to at least put aside their petty differences as Catarina’s new & unexpected situation is worth prioritizing over their petty jealously…
