English Dub Review: My Hero Academia “Sad Man’s Parade”

Overview:

Twice breaks free of his trauma and uses his powers to their fullest. It’s not just heroes that have ultimate moves anymore! He does his best to rescue everyone but everything looks like it will come down to a showdown between Re-Destro and Shigaraki.

Our Take:

This episode was really great, I love the character development this show does. Even the villains are getting it and I think that’s great. Twice is a bit like Deadpool, he’s a bit zany, unhinged, and all over the place. Horikoshi, the author of My Hero Academia, definitely lets their love of comic books show. I love the little references that get thrown and being able to see the different inspirations for certain characters.

In this episode, Newton Pittman really shined as Twice. Twice has a bunch of different personalities and Newton manages to make them all sound distinct and you can tell a difference. I’ve liked what I heard of him but this episode definitely made me take notice of him and Twice as well.

Twice unleashed an ultimate move where he created almost a city’s worth of clones. He called it March of Grief, Sad Man’s Parade and honestly, I can’t think of a cooler name for what he did. It’s really cool to see that the villains have ultimate moves as well. I think we got a hint of Shigaraki’s in the last episode and I think the world is in for trouble if it is.

I feel like this entire review is just going to be me talking about Twice but he really shined this episode. The rest of the league was really surprised at him using his power freely. He said that love and courage evened him out and I loved that line. I forgot that I was watching a bunch of villains for a while and thought of them as heroes. Something tells me that, that’s the point of this whole arc is to stop viewing everyone as heroes and villains but as people. I could definitely be reading too much into it but that is what I am taking away from it.

Whether someone is a hero or villain it is always awesome to see someone overcome their trauma. Heck after getting his arms broke he cried but they were tears of happiness. He had been living in fear that he would disappear because he wasn’t the real version. Twice had a lot of bad luck but finding a “home” in the League of Villains really helped him to find himself and become a little more stable. Not entirely or else the crazy multiple man that we’ve come to love wouldn’t be the same.
