Our Take

For this episode, things take a different direction but for all the right reasons. For starters, I really liked the backstory between Tohru and Elma which was a welcoming surprise as it was properly conveyed during their flashback scenes. The sweet moments between them despite the genuine differences they have were very nice in terms of their dynamic. Like most Buddy-Cop stories, their relationship had a rough start but you can tell they’re clearly best friends with a legit history.

The other main focus of this episode was of course with Ilulu finally getting a job after doing nothing for the first 4 episodes, and it seems like she’s doing well at something she’s well-suited for. I think this did a lot to finally get me to further appreciate her character. I like the slacker angle, and it was nice to see her getting along with others.

Overall, this was an interesting glimpse on the world of Dragon People through the eyes of Tohru and Elma’s Flashback. Before this, we’ve had little glimpses here and there of what it was like, but nothing as extensive as this was. Apart from that, seeing Ilulu adapt to the human world one step at a time and growing up while keeping a childlike enthusiasm manages to preserve most of this episode’s wholesomeness.
