English Dub Review: Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S “Common Sense (It’s Different For Everyone)”

Overview

Two suspicious figures appear in a dark alley under the cover of night. An unsettling air hangs over their secret exchange. “What do you need, asking me to come here?” asks the perverted woman with two horns. “Lend me your power,” answers the melancholic man in a butler uniform. And so the most sinister and awful tag team begins to take action…

Our Take

This time around we’re getting more screentime with other supporting characters primarily with a few separate subplots. The first one involves Fafnir as she wrote a “doujinshi” she wants to sell called “Huge Melons” (Subtle…) And she’s clearly asking for help from Lucoa which was something that we would never expect…

The second half of the episode was primarily focused on Kobayashi, Kanna, and Tohru. Oh, Elma was there too for a bit. The conversation about them adapting to the human lifestyle was quite nice from an outside perspective.

Overall, another passable episode that feels more like filler than doing anything to actually advance the story. It’s not terrible but nothing as memorable either. I’m glad that Fafnir is getting more screentime once more and I do like his passionate commitment of wanting to make a doujinshi that’ll sell money-wise.  As for the other half, No matter how much humanity as a whole denies this, day-to-day normality in this world can often lead to a very dull existence. Since the dragon-ladies in this series come from another world where constant battles and conflict are sadly commonplace, we can only imagine how different their definition of boredom was compared to ours. Yet they embrace it since it’s a new & foreign concept that doesn’t involve violence.
