English Dub Review: Miss Caretaker of Sunohara-sou “Spring Breeze, Going to Tokyo, Miss Caretaker”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

In America and Canada, gender dysphoria is becoming an increasingly diagnosed condition. In Japan, being a boy that kinda looks like a girl is somewhat frowned upon and is the basis of our story for Miss Caretaker of Sunohara-sou. The caretaker herself, Ayaka, is a bit of a tease and has been so for whomever else decides to stay at the temporary living situation usually reserved for middle school students. In this case, it’s Aki who moves in from the countryside, in Tokyo for the first time to prove to everyone that he’s a man and should be treated as such. His roommates, members of the local student council, know exactly what Aki’s up against when it comes to Ayaka and they do everything to make sure the maid knocks off her shenanigans, but how long will he last?

Our Take

In America, it can be a real heavy job of explaining why a grown big-breasted woman would want to seduce a middle school pre-teen, but here we are in a cultural indifference that is usually at the centerpiece of most anime controversies. Miss Caretaker of Sunohara-sou is sure to do the same, though, Funimation doesn’t seem to mind the attention.
