English Dub Review: Log Horizon: Destruction of the Round Table “The Oldest Ancients”

Overview:

We are introduced to Litka and Lelia Mofur, two ancients. They are essentially the same as Elias Hackblade as they were “main characters” but have since been forgotten. Akatsuki finally got clarity on Shiroe and Kanami ever being a couple, and Rayneshia is going to go on a cruise to retrieve Krusty.

Our Take:

Well, I guess I should just give up on the whole election thing ever being mentioned again. I would have liked a little more fallout from what seemed like a huge plot point but I guess it’s realistic that way. Sometimes things do go out with a whimper. Other than that this episode was a really good return to form, classic Log Horizon through and through.

We got a little downtime with all the Log Horizon guild members. Touya, Isuzu, and some of the other junior members went out to get some materials and came across Litka and Lelia Mofur who were starving. Tetora finally asks the question a lot of us have been thinking. Were Shiroe and Kanami a couple? Nyanta and Naotsugu who were in the guild with them provided some clarity.

Turns out they were just friends, close friends almost like siblings. However, they do believe Shiroe might have been in love with her. Akatsuki was glad to know one way or the other because she is without a doubt the very best girl. That’s not to say she doesn’t have any rivals though. Turns out Isuzu is on “Team Minori” and is doing everything she can to help them get together. I am more of an Akatsuki person… if that wasn’t obvious by now but Minori and her brother are awesome characters and more screentime for them would definitely be welcomed.

Shiroe got a chance to show off his “villain in glasses” persona again, it’s always a treat. He sent Rayneshia off to retrieve Krusty, this was a win for everyone. Rayneshia gets a vacation on a cruise and brings Krusty back to assist with work. Some of the people of Akihabara aren’t super happy with Rayneshia so she can get out of town while everything cools down.

I’ve mentioned this before but where this show excels is with its characters. If the rest of the season closes out with character progression and moments like this episode I think it will make up for the lackluster election arc. There does seem to be a bit of a battle looming on the horizon though.

Lelia and Litka weren’t just in the woods for fun. They were running from some sort of creature that seems to be headed to Akiba. If there is a battle on the horizon I am sure Shiroe will come up with some awesome game plan. I am really looking forward to that because it’s been a bit since we got to see Shiroe and the Log Horizon guild fight.
