English Dub Review: Life with an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout “A Guy Who Reincarnated as a Fantasy Knockout and a Weapon for the Final Battle”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Schwartz’s great efforts have led to the devastation of the rebel army. Kalm, one of the Demon Lord army’s top officers, has been guiding things from the shadows. In order to keep her operation moving, she uses Ugraine and Tachibana to activate an ancient weapon called Mehpon. Even as they falter in the face of the weapon’s overwhelming power, Jinguji and Schwartz set out to subdue it. Then, Tachibana, who is being manipulated by the Demon Lord’s forces, uses Mehpon to attack them…

Our Take:
The rebel army has been quickly disassembled thanks to Schwartz’s trustworthy sword, Garm. But, unfortunately, it’s not enough to subdue a bigger threat terrorizing Ishruna. With the show nearing the end of its first season, it seemed appropriate for the characters’ skills to be tested, especially when facing their own friend.
The previous episode showcased Tachibana being influenced by dark energy from Ugraine’s maid while reminiscing about being saved by Jinguji countless times. This episode revealed that the maid is actually Kalm in disguise. Along with Vizzd, Kalm plots to destroy the kingdom by infecting Ugraine and Tachibana with dark energy. After the army quits, the Demon Lord’s helpers resort to using Tachibana and Ugraine to gain control of a powerful weapon called Mehpon, a giant bunny-shaped robot. Again, the show is extremely bizarre, and I love every minute of it. Unfortunately for Tachibana, they use him as a battery to power the device.
We’ve known that Jinguji has been protecting Tachibana both in the real world and the isekai world, with him serving as Tachibana’s weapon. However, we also discovered that Jinguji’s immense strength happens when he and Tachibana are together. If they get separated for too long, Jinguji is reduced to being an ordinary and helpless guy.
This discovery serves as the central conflict for Jinguji in this episode and next week’s finale in the midst of combating Kalm and Vizzd’s nefarious plot. He has to find a solution to rescue his best friend and save the kingdom without his powers while Schwartz does the heavy lifting. Unfortunately, with Tachibana being blinded by jealousy and Mehpon’s power, this could be one scenario where Jinguji might not be able to save him.
Some viewers may blame the dark energy inside Tachibana for making him want to destroy Jinguji. However, it’s also because he hasn’t received a compliment from Jinguji and feels that he’s not as special as his friend. We’ve been waiting for Tachibana to tell him about his frustration for quite a while. Seeing it finally come to fruition before the finale makes the relationship between the two pals even more compelling.
The second-to-last episode provides plenty of high stakes you’d expect from other isekai action shows, with Ishruna in danger of being annihilated by a giant bunny robot. But it also didn’t forget about the humor the series has been known for, mainly Schwartz’s far-fetched reactions to being the only person doing the fighting. I also enjoyed the silly banter between a power-hungry Vizzd and Kalm. With his best friend being the final boss of the season, how would Jinguji be able to achieve victory without hurting Tachibana?
