English Dub Review: Kaguya-sama: Love is War “Kozue Makihara Wants to Have Fun / Chika Fujiwara Wants to Unmask / Miyuki Shirogane’s Culture Festival”

Overview:

Ishigami, who succeeded in inviting Tsubame on a Culture Festival date, browses around campus exhibits in an attempt to shorten the distance between the two. In the end, it didn’t go as well as hoped. But when he tried to express his everyday feelings of gratitude for the upperclassman he feels indebted, it caused an unexpected uproar. Shirogane was astonished after witnessing the unexpected event. Gripped by the fear that his secretly planned “Make Shinomiya Confess Plan” will be ruined, he sinks into despair after thinking too hard about every detail.

Our Take:

Ishigami was the only person in the whole building that had no idea what gifting someone a heart-shaped item means at this festival. I think it made his “confession” smoother but man the poor guy doesn’t even know he did it! I hope things go well for Ishigami but I kind of like him and Iino together personally.

One of the things I have mentioned that I love about this show is that it has a bunch of recurring gags like a sitcom. The one where Fujiwara has to constantly coach Shirogane is hilarious. But even more hilarious is her little sister having a crush on him and Fujiwara wanting to show his bad sides. Only to have him excel at everything all of a sudden. Fujiwara views Shirogane and Ishigami essentially as garbage. Shirogane needs to act fast because if Ishigami’s confession doesn’t go well it could mess up all the plans he has set up.

The culture festival is ramping up and it’s only going to get better from here! This is one arc I have been looking forward to for a long time. This really is one of the best rom-com series out there and I don’t say that lightly. Anime has some of the best rom-com out there.
