English Dub Review: Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon II ” PAST & FUTURE (SEASON 1 RECAP) ; “Party” ;

Overview (Spoilers Below)

A bar fight between Bell’s party and the Apollo Familia leads to an eventual invitation to a big ol’ party brought to you by the Apollos. Yes, the Bells are in attendance and, at first, all goes smooth with dancing and drinking and everyone having a good time. That is until the god Apollo challenges the Hestia Familia to a war game after hearing about what went down at the bar. He uses the grand occasion to embarrass Bell by exaggerating what happened at the bar much to the chagrin of Hestia who isn’t believing a word of it.

Our Take

We kick off the second season of Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon with a recap episode to help give new and returning fans a chance to understand the gravity of what’s going down and then with “Party” setting the stage so as to kick off the new season. There is a quick fight scene at the beginning but for those looking for an action-packed episode, we just aren’t there yet. The premiere episode’s job was simply to reintroduce the protagonist, introduce new antagonists, and even give us glimpses at possible new allies in the process. “Party” does a great job of doing this all the while reminding us that the producers of this series make some of the most luscious-looking sequences in the business which is very much on display during Bell’s dance scene and even during the battle challenge with Apollo draped in shadows as he bellows out his innocuous claims against the Hestia Familia. It’s a riveting start for a series that could pose a serious challenge to the big boy streaming services out there that also have new anime releasing this month including Funimation and Netflix.

Expect the story between Apollo and Hestia to really build out over the next couple of weeks because these two have a hell of history together. Apollo can have any girl he wants except Hestia and clearly, his hatred towards Bell is probably more of a jealousy-trip due to his relationship with Hestia than it is anything else. We haven’t quite established all of this yet, but the climax of the episode does a good job of prepping us for it.
