English Dub Review: I’m Standing on a Million Lives “Unqualified Heroes”

As a dim crimson light gently blankets across the night sky, a teenage boy vents his frustration with even more red. The blood of goblins. This not only sets the tone of the series moving forward but the psychology of Yotsuya as well. The reliability of this character shines through as Zeno Robinson perfectly captures the feelings being utterly alone and devoid of any friends. Hobbies, such as video games, become his only friend and therefore his only focus. The longing to talk to a beautiful and successful girl also becomes a burden as he is reminded of how inconsequential he is compared to model and star student, Iu Shindō. Jeannie Tirado perfectly encapsulates this role as she simply radiates confidence and kindness. After getting over his shock of being in a weird plane of existence and getting to know the laws of the world, Yotsuya also formerly meets Kusue Hakozaki, a timid girl and newly gained friend of Iu. Valeria Rodriguez, like her fellow castmates, also embodies the character well with her shyness and cries of terror at new threats. Iu and Kusue, although with slightly more experience, are just as lacking as Yotsuya in technique and ability. This, as the name of this episode entails, puts all three of them in a very precarious yet very interesting position as they must combat new threats and all the while learning the ropes of their respective skills. This episode sets up for a great second one as well as Yotsuya, unlike his teammates, is intrigued by this dangerous video game like hellscape as it differs so heavily from his boring humdrum life back in Tokyo. Witnessing this character come to the conclusion that he must take on these challenges alone is both incredibly exciting even if it is foolhardy in the long run. It will inevitably cause him to develop and realize that the whole point of this world is to show that nobody can go it alone. Friends will not only help bear the burden of your struggles but in this case could quite literally be the difference between life and death.
