English Dub Review: I’m Standing on a Million Lives “A Short Film and the Sixth Hero”

Overview:

The sixth hero is a woman named Glenda but she prefers to go by Glen. She informs them that there are other people that can go to the other world. They make a short film about their experiences to get the word out. They are then transported to the other world and Glenda is assigned the ax warrior role. Keita chooses the quest they will take to everyone’s dismay. Some sort of parasite attacks everyone and a little girl in trouble.

Our Take:

This show was soooo close to handling homosexuality perfectly. Glenda just casually mentions that she’s into women to Yusuke and he more or less glosses over it. He has a mental thought about “Did she just come out to me?” but nothing bad. Then it comes up later when she’s with Kusue and it’s handled less tactfully. It was by no means the worst way I’ve seen it handled but it was just so close to perfection and coming from a show like this that would have been really cool.

Sticking with Glenda, I am 99% sure it’s Wendee Lee who does the voice. I haven’t heard her in too many new roles lately so it was really awesome to hear her. Since she is one of the heroes I imagine that means she will be a regular at this point so I’m looking forward to more from her. The character of Glenda herself is pretty interesting.

The whole party is one of the more interesting setups that we have seen in anime of this type before. It’s up to six people now and while it is still pretty one-sided towards females it hasn’t devolved into a full-blown harem… yet. Though taking the character’s personalities and the fact that Glenda is into women into account I don’t see that happening. The only member of the party that seems like a romantic interest for Yusuke is Iu and I kind of like that.

I was really upset we didn’t get more time outside of the other world. A little bit of the last episode and maybe five minutes of this one just wasn’t enough. Iu did convince Yusuke to be less formal with her but it’s still a struggle but I think that will be interesting to see play out. If you were wondering… yes Keita is still a douche and kind of ruined what good he did previously.

This episode ends with an attack by some parasite thing. I hope this one turns out well but it has a lot to live up to from the last arc. That was one of my favorite arcs of this whole series. Time passes a lot between visits apparently, this time it was seventeen years and Kahvel had passed away. That was really sad, I wonder what has happened to Aoiu. Yusuke needs to quit getting women of this world to fall in love with him. Maybe he will realize the treasure has been close to him this whole time? I am honestly not expecting much, Yusuke doesn’t seem too interested in that sort of thing.
