English Dub Review: How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? “Want to Be an Idol?”
Overview:
Zina continues charging in full speed ahead.
Our Take:
This episode focuses on more than just exercise; that being food habits and what to do when you’re resting.
Gym fees are expensive, and Hibiki realizes that she needs some money to pay for it. Luckily, she’s working part-time at her brother’s yakinuku restaurant, which isn’t an easy gig. She works five days a week, and between exercise and schoolwork, that’s pretty tough. Hibiki may constantly portray herself as a slacker, but she actually works pretty hard. That’s worthy of praise, for sure. You go, Hibiki.
Zina and Hibiki luckily seem to have adjusted to being around each other, which is nice, considering Zina’s almost stalker-like behavior from the last episode. Of course, Zina still hasn’t given up on outmatching Hibiki, and is still trying to figure out the secret to her strength. She thinks it’s eating; apparently Japanese beef has a lot more calories to it, which is something I didn’t know. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case, as Hibiki has always been shown to be a bit of a glutton.
Tachibana’s cosplay habit is exposed by Zina of all people, who happens to have a giant love for anime and cosplay. Being into the cosplay scene means that she was able to recognize Tachibana as a teacher. Them hanging out together and Zina being woefully unable to read the mood was hilarious, but Tachibana’s panic felt very real. She is sent into a panic over being exposed and desperately begs to not let the information go public, going as far as even prostrating herself. That she could be potentially humiliated and fired over her hobby, a hobby that doesn’t hurt anyone and she doesn’t bring into her professional life at all, felt very sad. At least they had a jog together, and I didn’t know that resting actually makes your body recover slower. The more you know!
The idol segment… well, it was a lot. I generally am not a fan of the recent trend of injecting idols into everything, but this is an idol segment by a technicality. Really just technically. Zina wants to be part of idol culture, but she has no idea what to do. She does know how to bodybuild though, so what they end up doing is a swimsuit competition weightlifting show. It’s truly baffling to watch, and even the judge is confused. And I… don’t know what to say, admittedly. It’s truly something else, and it’s generally really surreal, to say the least. At least it’s absolutely hilarious.
Hi Ashley, thank you so much for reading and we love the feedback. Note that on that day we had 14th posts go up and only ten posts show on the front page, so it's possible the preview had already been archived by the time you got to it. One recommendation would be to add our RSS feed to your favorite news aggregator service like Feedly, this way you get all of the latest posts!
