English Dub Review: Hensuki: Are You Willing to Fall in Love with a Pervert, as Long as She’s a Cutie? “The Prince Became a Slave?!”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Sayuki notices Keiki is unabashedly doting on Koga’s every need and deduces that she’s “blackmailing him into obedience.” After arguing about their titties for yet another time in the show, Sayuki runs out in tears over Keiki’s enslavement. At home, Keiki decides to come up with a plan to figure out if Koga is truly Undierella. He visits her house the next day and dresses up in a butler outfit. Koga forces him to go out in public with it, tending to her every whim while people watch.

Once they’re back at her house, he thinks about enacting his plan to look for evidence while Koga is in the shower. However, she screams, causing him to leap to her rescue. Koga points out a spider on the wall but kicks Keiki out once he realizes he’s staring. Later, when he begs for her forgiveness, she opens up to him about how she truly cares about him. She says that his head pets remind her of her late beloved grandmother. During this bout of honesty, though, Keiki discovers that — much like Sayuki — she had stolen a pair of his boxers as well. Thus ends Koga’s blackmailing!

After he spends some romantically ambiguous time being an art reference for Nanjo, he reunites with Shoma and Koharu. Upon looking at a random stalker photo Koharu once took, though, he is stricken with a realization about who Undierella is.

Our Take

With only two episodes left in the series, pretty much every character’s role in the series has become clear. Sayuki and Koga were always framed as “the main options” for Keiki, outlined by episodes that were tailored specifically to them (Sayuki’s amusement park date with Keiki, and now Koga’s enslavement date with Koga.) Due to this, characters like Nanjo don’t really have that much of an emotional impact (except for Koharu, who really is Keiki’s only female ally, other than his sister.) This makes things feel a little unbalanced because moments like Nanjo’s lap-sitting thing with Keiki seem a bit forced. Meanwhile, other characters (Fujimoto specifically) really just seem like they’re there for minor flavor.

With this, it would be too obvious of a plot resolution for either Sayuki or Koga to be “Undierella.” Fujimoto is too underused as a character, which leaves Nanjo, Koharu, or…Mizuha. It’s probably not Koharu, since she and Shoma are a thing. Nanjo feels too underwhelming and nonsensical, considering her yaoi priorities, and Mizuha…

Please don’t let it be Mizuha.

From a writer’s perspective, the best solution to a mystery is one that has been overlooked. That being said, could it be possible that Shoma simply pranked him this entire time? It would fulfill Nanjo’s fantasies, to say the least.

The voice acting continues to be entertaining, but there’s still been a lot of “unironic” sexualization. Despite all the weird kink-based dialogue, though, Koga’s character is pretty complex and sympathetic. Everything from her grandmother’s death to her isolation at school, to her harassment by men really accesses the pathos of an audience — but is it enough to deem her worthy of Keiki’s heart?

Chances are, she doesn’t even want it — but apparently, Keiki knows who does.
